After previously going completely off the rails, we return to make another attempt to scale the island mountain of Sula this weekend. This time we intend to take the trail most travelled, sticking to the tried and true, predictable and boring path, albeit while taking in some great views. Having said that plans can fall through and so often they do as I have demonstrated on occasion.

This week showing “What We Do in the Shadows” (trailer). From Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement (who also star in the movie), we have the most delightful of mockumentaries - one that redefines the onyx standard of gallows humor. A film crew illuminates for us the most secret subculture in all of New Zealand, while they document vampire flatmates Viago (The Dandy), Vladislav (The “Poker”), and Deacon (the young hot 300 yr old). They bicker over the household chore wheel, struggle to get invited into nightclubs, and show a younger, cooler vampire the ropes while trying earnestly not to eat his human friend Stew. They really do adore Stew. Other times, they narrowly escape werewolf attacks (that they provoke), protect Stew from being eaten (they want to but they agreed he’s off limits), and perhaps most titillating: who, and what, is Vladislav’s arch rival, The Beast??
