The first, Middle School Moment, focuses on a startling statistic: 7,000 students drop out of school every day in the United States, with critical decisions often made during middle school years. This episode examines how a school in the Bronx is employing innovative data collection and analysis to identify and intervene with potential dropouts early.
The second episode, Fast Times at West Philly High, follows students and teachers from West Philadelphia High School as they overcome adversity to participate in the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE competition. They design and build two super-hybrid cars, competing against major auto manufacturers and well-funded teams for a $10 million prize. This episode delves into the creation of these 100 miles-per-gallon cars, the untapped potential of young minds, and the potential for transformative innovation in public education.
