Agenda: Join us as Tom interviews AJ Shortley, host of the YouTube channel called “The Holy Shift Show” During the interview, AJ will share his profound journey from fundamentalism to a deep and ongoing exploration of the Christian message and its socio-political relevance for today’s world. We will open the floor up for questions from the audience during the latter half the session.
About AJ Shortley: My name is AJ Shortley. I grew up in the Catholic church, but left the faith in 9th grade, and did not care whatsoever about religion or concepts of God. Two years after High School, however, I became involved with a “nondenominational” church near Atlanta, that for all intents and purposes, was theologically fundamentalist. I didn’t realize this at the time, and I began asking numerous types of questions with which people became quite uncomfortable. Eventually I was asked to stop asking questions. So I applied to Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. I finished my studies there with an M.Div and a Th.M. Needless to say, my ever transforming perspectives on reality have taken me far from fundamentalism. Socio-economically and politically, I have come to recognize immense harm brought on individuals, communities, and the planet through neoliberal/capitalist societal structures. I consider topics of political-economy to be matters at the heart of human spiritual practice and development, as well as topics profoundly connected to human thought in biblical literature. I would certainly consider myself as a universalist of some variety. And most recently I have begun to explore traditions and practices within the broad range of mysticism, Christian mysticism and Eastern in particular.

Lust, Caution is a 2007 erotic period espionage romantic mystery film directed by Ang Lee, based on the 1979 novella by Eileen Chang. Lust, Caution is set in Hong Kong in 1938 and in Shanghai in 1942, when the city was occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army and ruled by the puppet government led by Wang Jingwei. The film depicts a group of Chinese university students from The University of Hong Kong who plot to assassinate a high-ranking special agent and recruiter working for the puppet government by luring him into a honey trap. The film is generally accepted to be based on the historical event of Chinese spy Zheng Pingru’s failed attempt to assassinate the Japanese collaborator Ding Mocun. 158 minutes. – Wikipedia
