A course on modern Middle Eastern history was originally scheduled to be taught at Columbia University in Fall 2025. However, as Columbia continues its complicity in covering up the U.S.-Israeli genocide against Palestine and capitulates to the Trump administration at the expense of academic freedom and student rights, Professor Rashid Khalidi found it impossible to teach his course. This segment of the course, entitled A Short Course on Palestine, will now be offered at The People’s Forum, co-sponsored with the Institute for Palestine Studies, making it accessible to the broader public.

18:00 (6 pm) - The Authoritarian Takeover of America w/Susanna

Tonight we focus on the 1919 - 1920 Palmer Raids, under the Wilson Administration. The First World War has been over for a year, and the modern era plows ahead. But so does fear and paranoia. In America, the Red Scare goes into overdrive.

If you are not familiar with America 1919 - 1920 please join me for my segment focusing on the 2nd Wilson Admin, the rise of Unions, racial violence, suppression of free speech and the FIRST RED Scare. You will learn as I have that Stephen Miller, Trump and Steve Bannon are just reading American history books to craft this current fanatical tide of fear, Nativism, Xenophobia and mass deportations. My presentation will run about 90 minutes overlapping into Bring the News.

17:00 (5 pm) - Office Hours w/Professor Adnan Husain

Office Hours #9 - Why History, How History?: Studying the Past for a Just Future

The radical academy is open and the professor is in! In this solo edition of Office Hours w/Prof. Adnan Husain, I will discuss approaches to history, particularly premodern history and its relevance despite the distance in time to understanding our contemporary world. When and how does Europe become “Europe”? How does the picture change when we take a global perspective? We will talk about non-Western histories and theories, Ibn Khaldun’s social and historical thought, how to engage in a dialectical materialist study of historical culture, religion, and ideas. How do historical narratives and their underlying assumptions pattern national, ethno-religious, and other identities? How can we study the past to envision and organize for a just, equal, sustainable future? The field is vast and interesting, so come with your questions, topics, and comment and learn to be guerrilla historians! I’m really looking forward to discussion with you all about the past, our present and possible futures. Audience engagement will be crucial so post your questions early!
