Agenda: The Historical Roots of Pete Hegseth’s “Theology of Violence”
Tonight we’ll watch and discuss an interview with Mark Ramm of Transparency Cascade Press, who traces how Pete Hegseth’s “theology of violence” draws on older strands of American Christian thought. Ramm shows how ideas about hierarchy, masculinity, and the moral use of force echo arguments once used by pro‑slavery theologians and how these themes have resurfaced across two centuries of American religious and political life. We’ll explore how this long-running tension—between a Christianity that enforces hierarchy and one that seeks liberation—continues to shape public policy today, especially in immigrant enforcement and the clashes between federal agents and protesters.

The radical academy is in session at its usual time. Adnan discusses the acclaimed speech by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at Davos as important background for the Marco Rubio address announcing a new era of colonialism and white supremacy at the Munich Security Conference. We’ll discuss Rubio’s remarks, its geopolitical and historical context and meaning, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s keynote address n Munich and the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s recent speech. Speeches, speeches! Through them we will discuss some of the major issues like the impending attack on Iran and your comments and questions. Beware: there could be historical references to the Crusades! But don’t let that deter you.
