This session features scholars offering rigorous critiques of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism—a framework that has been widely adopted by institutions and governments, yet increasingly challenged for its role in suppressing legitimate discourse on Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. Our discussion will explore the implications of this definition for academic freedom, public debate, and human rights advocacy, as well as consider strategies for meaningful resistance and alternative approaches.

Tonight’s Agenda: A Celebration of the Revolutionary Thought of James Baldwin

Tonight we will watch and discuss a powerful documentary created to honor James Baldwin who has been called GOD’S REVOLUTIONARY VOICE: a literary, philosophical, cultural, artistic, and ideological genius, whose ideas on the revolutionary remaking of world humanity continue to exert their power.

“To Fulfill the Unfulfilled, To Answer the Unanswered: The Revolutionary James Baldwin,” the title of this film, is a documentary produced by The Saturday Free School for Philosophy and Black Liberation. Premiered on August 2, 2024—Baldwin’s 100th birth anniversary—it explores Baldwin’s revolutionary evolution and positions him as a philosopher inseparable from Martin Luther King Jr. and the Black Freedom Movement. The premiere was part of a three-day celebration in Philadelphia, featuring an Afro-Asiatic Peace Concert and the exhibit Love & Revolution: James Baldwin Speaks to Our Time.

Amid today’s national crises of violence, poverty, and meaning, Baldwin’s work offers us a path toward healing and transformation. His writings reflect both the possibility and necessity of the birth of a new American people and challenge us to complete the unfinished democratic and emancipatory struggle.

Among other things, Peter will share some angles to the story that the media at large seems afraid to cover, such as Epstein’s alleged links to espionage and the issue of sex for blackmail. Additionally Peter will comment on the DOJ’s push to the release of five days of grand jury transcripts from proceedings involving Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, as well as the opposition to their release.

We’re all excited to have our community’s friend Peter back with us once again to offer his wisdom and insights and help us make some sense of this crazy world of Trump-land in which we find ourselves!

Peter B. Collins, longtime radio personality and independent progressive political commentator, retired from his global podcast during the beginning of COVID after hosting it for 11 years and having listeners spanning 71 countries. He began as a DJ in Chicago during Watergate, later moved to the Bay Area, hosting major shows at KOME, KRQR, and KGO. A pioneer of Sirius satellite radio and co-owner of KRXA, he launched a syndicated progressive talk show that ran for 4 years. He lives north of San Francisco and enjoys sailing the Bay.

The interview highlights their shared vision—one that is scientifically grounded, ethically transformative, and deeply meaningful.

The interview invites skeptical believers and believing skeptics alike to explore our shared humanity, and offers a model of the kind of dialogue that is essential for building a compassionate and flourishing world in the future.

C. S. Pearce has been writing about religious and ethical issues, public affairs, and natural science since 1992 as well as Op Eds in the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, and other papers.

Philip Clayton is an American philosopher of religion and philosopher of science, and a well-known process theologian.. His work focuses on the intersection of science, ethics, and society. M

So why then, do so many have disdain for our government while embracing the free market? She recounts the story of how American business leaders intervened in politics, popular culture, the educational system, religious life, and academic discourse to promote market fundamentalism.

An internationally renowned scientist and historian and author of eight books, she is professor of the history of science and professor of earth and planetary sciences at Harvard University. Hidden San Francisco is a guidebook like no other. Structured around the four major themes of ecology, labour, transit and dissent, Chris Carlsson peels back the layers of the city’s history to reveal a storied past: behind old walls and gleaming glass facades lurk former industries, secret music and poetry venues, forgotten terrorist bombings, and much more. Carlsson also delves into the Bay Area’s long prehistory, examining the region’s geography and the lives of its indigenous inhabitants before the 1849 Gold Rush changed everything.

This second edition includes new tours on the wild and natural parts of San Francisco that most tourists never visit, from Glen Canyon to Sutro Forest, as well as a new themed walk on the Summer of Love. There is also a new introduction examining the devastating impact of the pandemic, as well as a mini-history of tech in the city, from the Gold Rush to AI.
