Tonight’s Agenda:
I am pleased to announce that our esteemed colleague, Adnan Husain, a history professor and podcaster, will be providing a sociopolitical analysis of the current global situation from his perspective as a historian. He will offer insights into how we might individually and collectively respond to the Trump administration and the broader rise of global authoritarianism and fascism, with a particular focus on its impact on the poor, marginalized, and working-class communities. Additionally, as a Muslim and Sufi, Adnan will share how his faith influences his views and personal response to this crisis, especially during the sacred time of Ramadan. We will follow his presentation with a Q&A period and community discussion.
Adnan will actually be joining our zoom at 8pm Central. Beginning at 7:30pm, we will first take some time to first remember and share our fond memories about our dear, dear friend , Nancy Shaw Mathisen, who tragically died a few days ago.
About Adnan: Adnan Husain describes himself as a whiling leftist and spiritual materialist. He is a Medieval European and Middle Eastern historian at Queen’s University, Canada. He has a particular interest in the relationship between Muslims, Jews and Christians in the medieval Mediterranean.
