Maybe I’ll show a classic episode of a sitcom I love, I dunno, but that’s just the kind of agent of chaos I am. Sarah told me to do this. Andy told me not to. Only God can judge me now. Pray for me.

09:00 (09:00 am) - The Big Squeeze w/Joe in Norway

It is harvest time and there are tons of apples and pears, oh my, to press their juice out. This weekend, I travel to Fonte Verdi in Molde, Norway, my friend’s organic dairy and juicery and give him a few sets of hands. We will see how the process works from start to finish. The locals bring their fruit to be washed, ground, pressed and packaged. Both modern and traditional pressing methods are employed. Often there are multiple generations coming to hand-press and people are very happy to not have their fruit go to waste.

Note: the juicing schedule is from 4:00-8:00 and depending on how busy things are I will pop on stream if there is a lull.

16:00 (04:00 pm) - Misère au borinage w/Falco

A 1935 Belgian documentary film directed by Henri Storck and Joris Ivens IMDB Wikepedia. Produced during the Great Depression, the film’s theme was intensely socialist, covering the poor living conditions of the workers and coal miners of Belgium’s industrialised Borinage region. It is considered a classic work of political cinema and has been described as “one of the most important references in the documentary genre.”

17:00 (05:00 pm) - “USEFUL PROPHECY, HEALING LEAVES: Revolution and (anti)-poetic solidarity in the Global South.” w/George T.

Moving at pace through works by Nikolai Bukharin, Muriel Rukeyser, Ernesto Cardenal, and little-known South African poet James Matthews, this presentation will aim to crystallise several years of research into Marxist poetry produced during the latter half of the 20th century. In doing so, my aim is not only to shine a light on an under-reported chapter in revolutionary history, but also to consider what lessons we might learn about the value of thinking across languages, cultures, and media in both organisational and scholarly work. There will be plenty of time for questions - so please bring plenty of them! Topics to be discussed: Ernesto Cardenal, proletarian poetry, the Black Consciousness Movement (South Africa), liberation theology, a Marxian (anti-)poetics, and more (I promise to fit it all in!)…
