I’ll be presenting a 2015 video I made about the Los Angeles Police Department scandal at it notorious Rampart Station - followed by a discussion of ongoing needs for police reform or outright abolition.

23:00 (11:00 pm) - “The Politics of Jesus” w/“Texas” Tom Webber

This presentation will represent introduction and overture to an ongoing, occassional series I hope to offer during Office Hours on is theme. It this first installment I hope to lay down the foundation for understanding how the teachings of the gospel and of Jesus represent an inherently radically political challenge to the economic staus quo and of Empire. More specifically I wish to unveil how one cannot properly understand who Jesus was and what he stood for apart from politics. Hopefully by the end of my presentation you will see that the radical nature of Jesus’ politics was there to be found right out of the gate of reading the Gospels, right there in plain sight. If this is new to you, you won’t be able to unsee what I will be revealing.

If you have a Christian Bible laying around, you might find it helpful in following along with my presentation.

August 28, at 4:30pm ET, Valley Vox Theatre proudly welcomes Oscar Nominated Producer, Julia Schachter.

We’ll be watching her documentary from 1997, ‘Colors Straight Up’. This acclaimed film is about teenagers living in Los Angeles who meet through the performing arts as a way of escaping the gangs and drugs prevalent in the neighborhood of Watts.

Afterwards, we’ll have a live Q and A with Julia, PLUS a few of the students will visit to catch up and share their lives with us, for this very special Valley Vox Theatre.
