8 pm - CinemaTAC: The Last Election w/Robert

A brief excerpt of the writer/director’s (Doug Lain) description: “Inspired by Robert Downey Jr.’s The Last Party (1993) and Philip Seymour Hoffman’s The Party’s Over (2001), I wanted to make a film that was honest about what it felt like to attend both conventions (the RNC in Milwaukee and the DNC in Chicago in 2024) as an outsider. Someone who belonged to neither tribe and was welcome at neither table. What I found was a Republican Party transformed beyond recognition and a Democratic Party performing enthusiasm it didn’t quite feel. The Last Election is a reflective film, not an activist one. It offers no prescriptions. It sits with the discomfort of a political moment in which every generation of the left, including my own, is floundering. If there’s any hope to be found here, it’s in the honesty of that admission.”
