The film begins in the late 1960s, when Trudell and a community group called All Tribes, occupied Alcatraz Island for 21 months and a symbolic effort to claim the island for the Indian people. The event brought international attention to the Native American cause. After the Alcatraz occupation, Trudell went on to become national spokesman for the American Indian movement. The FBI labeled Trudell a subversive in the 1970s and its dossier on Trudell exceeded 17,000 pages, or the longest in the bureau history.

After years outside the public eye, in 1983 Trudell began to put his poems to music with the help of friend and fellow activist Jackson Browne and Kiowa guitar legend, the late Jesse and Davis. The recordings drew the attention of musicians, activist, and critics and put Trudell in the realm of social theorist and philosopher.

This documentary challenges us to consider how we might react if we encountered an outsider from beyond our world and how similar it might be to the way we interacted with Luna—a being who reached out with innocence and hope.

This discussion will not only focus on Luna’s journey but also on the broader themes of connection, understanding, and the shared experiences that can unite even the most unlikely of friends.

17:00 (05:00 pm) - A Wild Wild West Watch Party & Discussion w/Susanna

Directed by the great Richard Donner and is quite humorous. I call it “The Wild, Wild West meets Maverick” because it was originally an unproduced Maverick episode, repurposed for TW3. The Episode is The Night of the Bars of Hell and features the great Elisha Cook, Jr.
