Agenda: Interview with Cornell West on Real Meaning of Freedom, Justice, Democracy and Faith

NOTE: Tonight’s zoom will be hosted our friend Prof Jon.

Cornel West’s conversation examines the ethical and philosophical roots of democracy, freedom, and justice through the Black radical tradition. He argues that democracy is valuable not as an end but as a structure that enables the deeper pursuit of freedom. The discussion moves between political theory and lived struggle, exploring how freedom and justice intersect and how identity and class shape contemporary movements for liberation.

The dialogue then turns to religion, spirituality, and reason, highlighting both the insights and limits of each in understanding human experience. West reflects on what rational analysis misses — love, death, emotion — and closes by considering the future of international solidarity and the moral commitments needed to build genuine global connection.
